- 2 chains should be crossed over the front of the steel and tightened to prevent forward motion. (Red chains in figure 1)
- 2 chains should be crossed over the rear of the steel to prevent motion. (Red chains in figure 1)
- Two straps should be secured over the freight within the first 5 feet of the load.
- Two straps should be secured over the load within the last 5 feet of the load.
- Additional straps should be secured over the middle of the load so that there is a tie-down less than every 8 feet of the load.
Points to Remember:
- Edge protectors must be used under all 4-inch straps and under chains of any material that may be damaged by the chain.
- Both the front and the rear of the load need to be cross chained to prevent motion.
- Binder placement is usually on the top of the load.
- Straps over the load cannot be more than 8 ft apart.
